Subliminal Matters: where do you start with this one, there's too many places to go!
Location: Panorama Hair Ad - UK
Ad Review: Can I say that every time I look at this ad I feel like the guy is the victim of a very cruel prank. Can I also just say that this ad made me laugh. How many ads actually achieve that nowadays. I guess the only problem would be that the ad wasn't meant to poke fun or be funny but rather highlight a solution to a sensitive issue. On that front I'm thinking, maybe this wasn't the best ad as I'm pretty sure I'm not meant to have a smile on my face whenever my eyes land on it. I mean that's pretty insensitive and a little mean, but I'm sure the men can handle it! right?!

This Week on Subliminal Matters
So I hope you're excited to see what I've been up to while I've been away. I have some fun ads to share but I must say to every single visitor thanks for coming back. SM is about to hit 5,000 visitors and I think that most certainly is a milestone. Thanks for the emails and I even had a few comments while I was away which was pretty cool.
Although I haven't been posting I've most certainly been collecting and I am buzzing with excitement to share, hope you enjoy!

Ad Art in Sydney: Maybe It's Maybelline!!
Quote: "You are so beautiful, to me, can't you see..."
Location: Sydney CBD
Ad Review: What a great way to advertise your product! These Maybelline ads have been popping up around Sydney and I love them. I find them captivating and beautiful. I love colour so I'm seriously engrossed by the kaleidoscope in the campaign. I really find each ad to be a piece of art. Ad art! I first saw the red ad on my walk through the city and I couldn't get over how cool it was, the make up artist's work is so attractive. The cool ratings went through the roof when I kept finding different ones littered throughout the city. Great campaign: Maybe it is Maybelline :)
Subliminal Matters: the right tools + beautiful colour, can be used to highlight the strengths on anyone's face.

Joe Pesci Snickers Commercial
Quote:
Henry Hill: You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny.
Tommy DeVito: What do you mean I'm funny?
Henry Hill: It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy. [laughs]
Tommy DeVito: What do mean, you mean the way I talk? What?
Henry Hill: It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, the way you tell the story and everything.
Tommy DeVito: [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it?
- Goodfellas 1990 (rest of quote)
Subliminal Matters: Joe Pesci depicts grumpy like nobody else can
Location: TV Commercial
Ad Review: Well after the day I've been had, I really wanted to put an ad up that would reflect my mood due to lack of sleep. Joe Pesci is truly a good fella to have for this task. I love this snickers ad, in fact I think I might like it just a tad more than the Betty White commercial. Wooooo, Supermodels!! What do you model, gloves?! #lol

The Forgotten - Human Trafficking
![]() |
| EVERY YEAR OVER 1,000 WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED IN FALSE PROMISES |
Quote: "Every year over 1,000 women and children are victims of human trafficking because they believed in false promises"
- Vodacom MFW
Subliminal Matters: the victims of human trafficking are often too young to defend against their predators.
Location: Maputo, Mozambique
Ad Review: Human trafficking is definitely an issue that often falls under the public radar, BUT, it is a very present issue being felt around the world.
Recently, I've watched two movies, "I Am Slave" and "Whistleblower", and they've both highlighted the dark realities of this extremely detrimental issue. The first movie depicts a nasty cultural demand for "house help" that directly contributes to human trafficking and the second movie will make you cringe at the implication of UN involvement in human trafficking.
If you are doubting that this could be happening right under you nose the answer is a google search away. Type in human trafficking cases in your state and see what comes up. Better yet, support those orgs and news agents in your area that are paying attention to the issue.

Essve ESSTack: What Seems Like a Great Idea Today...

| WHAT SEEMS LIKE A GREAT IDEA TODAY, STICKS WITH YOU FOR 50 YEARS |
Subliminal Matters: OYE! the repercussions of the young and the restless; I'd agree, somethings in life you really might not to be stuck to like glue
Location: Internet
Ad Review: Simply funny. These two words best describe this ad. I'd say it's well and truly a classic for the funny ad section. It's totally the funniest ad about sex out there. Don't forget to look up in the ad! Hilarious from so many angles.

Calvin Klein Bright Briefs Campaign

Quote: "In living colour"
Subliminal Matters: CK seems to have a shortage of dark skinned people to use to promote their line.
Location: William St, @ Coca Cola sign end
Ad Review: Mixed feelings about this billboard. While I hear all the time that bright colours look good on dark skin I think this just might be a little too weird. If I hadn't done a double take I would have been certain this ad featured three black models. To find out just the opposite was admittedly jarring and left the question of why not just use people born with the complexion for the ad.
I don't enjoy this billboard even though I love bright colours.

Great Britain Appeal
Quote: "Countryside is Great Britain. Culture is Great Britain"
Location: William St
Ad Review: I've never been to the UK and I've got to say after walking home and seeing this ad daily for a month, this billboard has completely failed to appeal to me. Now, I realise that the English are not known for vibrance and fun, but I feel like this billboard just served up the commercial version of the most boring tea time imaginable. Boring. It could also be because my idea of a great vacation is not the English countryside, although I'm positive it is beautiful and just like I imagined in my Jane Austen readings.
Actually, I think Jane Austen has more chance of changing my mind about wanting to go see the English countryside. Well that, and the idea of meeting my beautiful English friends there.
